Local businesses support Mentoring Day

Allied Rehabilitation Centers participated in the nationally sponsored event called Disability Mentoring Day on October 18th.  Six consumers from Allied's Day Program and three students from Allied's Transitional Services Program participated, along with two students from the Suffield School District.

Disability Mentoring Day was organized to provide job seekers an opportunity to visit and job shadow various community-based businesses.  Our individuals had an opportunity to visit seven businesses includingAwards and More, Hallmark Cards, Cox Communications, Michael's Arts & Crafts, Swiss Cleaners,Shaw's Supermarket and Wal-Mart, as well as the North Thompsonville Fire Department.

In addition, the Olive Garden Restaurant in Enfield sponsored a luncheon for the consumers as part of Disability Mentoring Day.  The Olive Garden's parent corporation was a national sponsor for the event.  Our consumers presented Olive Garden Sales Manager Noreen DiMeo with a Certificate of Appreciation.

Ayers on the road to promote
Allied's business-to-business services

Richard C.  Ayers of Holyoke, MA, has joined Allied Community Services as a Sales Representative, reporting to Donna Schebel, Vice President of Industrial Services.  He is calling on businesses in both Connecticut and Massachusetts to promote Allied's business-to-business services.  These include fulfillment, production, assembly, packaging and shrink-wrapping, as well as mailing and payroll services.

Richard has an extensive background in the packaging and paper converting industries.  Prior to joining Allied, he was Vice President and General Manager at Mt.  Tom Box Company in West Springfield.  He also worked for Keystone Paper & Box, Robert Fibre Box and Packaging Corp.  of America.

"Richard's knowledge of the printing and packaging industries and his numerous business contacts will strengthen Allied's business development efforts," Donna states.  "We're pleased to have a professional of his caliber on board to develop new customers."

Golfers and sponsors raise $2,850
at third tournament for Enfield Stars

The third Annual Golf Tournament to benefit Allied's Enfield Stars was held at Airways Golf Course on September 17th.  Major sponsors included Corky's Auto Parts and Spring Street Service Center of Windsor Locks and Allied Community Services.  A field of 55 golfers participated in the tournament, along with 21 tee sponsors and a closest-to-the-pin sponsor, raising $2,850 for Allied athletes who will be competing in Special Olympics events throughout the state in 2007.

Allied's Enfield Stars is a sports training program for 110 developmentally disabled athletes from East Windsor, Enfield, Manchester, Somers, South Windsor, Stafford, Suffield, Windsor Locks and surrounding towns.  Golf tournament proceeds will be applied to registration fees and uniforms for the Special Olympics CT Summer Games in June.
